AMDF Holds 10th Africa Conference On Development Journalism

The Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) invites journalists, media professionals, communication scholars, development practitioners, civil society organisations, government officials, students and other stakeholders to participate in the 10th Africa Conference on Development Journalism (ACDJ), scheduled for December 2–4, 2026, in Kaduna, Nigeria.

The conference, themed “Advancing Development Journalism in Africa in an Era of AI and Uncertainty,” will provide a platform for participants to engage with some of the most important questions confronting journalism and development communication across the continent.

The organisers emphasised that participation is not limited to those presenting papers or submitting abstracts.

Professionals and other interested participants who wish to attend, learn, network and contribute to discussions are encouraged to register for the conference.

The 10th ACDJ will bring together people working across journalism, academia, development communication and related fields to examine how the media can remain relevant and effective amid rapid technological, social and economic changes.

Participants will have opportunities to engage with experienced journalists, scholars, development experts and other stakeholders on issues including artificial intelligence, misinformation, newsroom transformation, media sustainability, data journalism, climate and conflict reporting, public-interest journalism, digital skills, audience trust, press freedom and emerging media technologies.

The conference is particularly relevant for journalists and media professionals seeking to understand how artificial intelligence and other technological developments are changing the way news is produced, distributed and consumed.

While the conference provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present papers, participation also offers an avenue for professional networking, knowledge exchange and direct engagement with emerging ideas in development journalism.

Participants can take part in conference sessions and discussions, meet colleagues from different parts of Nigeria and beyond, and engage with academics, media organisations, development institutions and other stakeholders.

For journalism students and early-career media professionals, the conference will also provide an opportunity to interact with experienced practitioners and gain broader perspectives on the future of the profession.

The conference’s focus extends beyond the immediate Nigerian media environment.

Development challenges increasingly cross-national borders, while technologies such as artificial intelligence are transforming newsrooms and information ecosystems across Africa.

The ACDJ therefore seeks to encourage conversations that connect experiences from different African countries and examine approaches that can strengthen journalism’s contribution to development, accountability and informed public participation.
