Sola Ojo — Development Journalist and AI in Journalism Speaker

Sola Ojo is a Kaduna-based Nigerian journalist with over 15 years of experience covering politics, security, governance and public-interest issues, particularly in northern Nigeria. His reporting combines on-the-ground journalism with a strong interest in development challenges, accountability and the concerns of vulnerable communities.

He works with LEADERSHIP Newspapers, reporting on security developments, political affairs, governance and other issues affecting communities across the region. He also contributes to The Sun Newspapers and serves as editor of the digital news outlet Gobroadsheet.

Ojo’s reporting covers a broad range of public-interest issues, including banditry and kidnapping, political developments, judicial proceedings, public services and social inclusion. He has also reported on barriers facing women in politics, drawing attention to political gatekeeping, harassment and social stigma. His work seeks to bring community concerns to public attention and encourage responses from policymakers and other relevant institutions.

At the 10th Africa Conference on Development Journalism (ACDJ), Ojo will share insights on “Effective and Ethical Use of AI to Generate and Write Stories.” His session will address the responsible application of artificial intelligence in journalistic storytelling, with attention to the opportunities AI offers journalists and the importance of maintaining accuracy, editorial judgement, transparency and ethical standards.

Through his reporting, editorial work and contribution to professional learning, Sola Ojo brings practical newsroom experience to discussions on the evolving tools and responsibilities of development journalism.
