Alhassan Yahya is a Nigerian media professional and President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). Elected on 27 November 2024, he has held several leadership positions within the union, including Gombe State Chairman, Zonal Vice President, and National Deputy President.
As NUJ President, he advocates for improved welfare, fair remuneration, insurance coverage, and better working conditions for journalists across Nigeria. He also champions press freedom, journalist safety, and investigative journalism as essential pillars of democracy, transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Beyond his union leadership, Yahya has played an important role in promoting development journalism in Gombe State, supporting efforts to strengthen journalists’ capacity to report on issues affecting communities. He has been involved in training journalists on maternal and child health, child birth spacing, and other development issues, collaborating with organisations including Pathfinder International and UNICEF to advance development-focused reporting.
